Dave has been roleplaying since 1984 having started with the Fighting Fantasy series of gamebooks before moving on to Basic Dungeons & Dragons. His early years consisted of Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay (1st Edition) and, his personal favourite, Top Secret/S.I..
His enjoyment of the espionage genre caused him to start an officially unofficial website called Modus Operandi in 1999 which is still running today.
After a spell serving Queen and Country in the Royal Air Force, Dave’s entry to a Spycraft character creation competition was accepted for the Agency supplement. He was later approached to write the UK chapter of the World Militaries book for the Spycraft line. He also wrote the European chapter as well as contributing some of the rules chapter.
In 2003 Dave established UK Role Players to fill a gap in the UK market. This advert-free website went from strength to strength and became a focal point for role players in the UK hosting the official forums for a number of conventions until its closure in 2018.
As a personal project, Dave created what is now DnD5e.info a fan-run Fifth Edition SRD and associated blog/gaming resource for Dungeons & Dragons (5th Edition) and, in 2020, this evolved into the formation of Fortiter Games producing content for 5th Edition Fantasy and other RPGs.
